This year saw a significant increase in candidature, with ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ,๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿณcandidates from ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฒ Senior Secondary Schools registering for the examination, representing a ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ.๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ% rise from the ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด,๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฎ candidates in ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐ. Of these candidates, ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿณ.๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฒ% ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ (๐Ÿณ,๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฐ) ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฎ.๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฐ% ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ (๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ,๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฏ).

The candidates registered in 40 subjects spanning a broad spectrum, including English Language, Mathematics, Civic Education, as well as Science, Arts, Commerce, Technical, and Vocational subjects.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) in a press release revealed the statistics for this year’s results.

โ€œA total of ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿญ candidates, representing ๐Ÿฑ.๐Ÿญ๐Ÿญ% of the ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด,๐Ÿด๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต candidates with complete records, ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€, including the critical subjects English Language and Mathematics. While recognising that this result demonstrates commendable effort by the candidates, MoBSE believes that there remains substantial room for improvement in foundational subject mastery.

Delving deeper into performance trends for this year, MoBSE noted that a notable portion of students, though fewer, have excelled across many subjects, with ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿณ students (๐Ÿฎ.๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฏ%) having credit passes in ๐Ÿต ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€, while ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿด๐Ÿด students (๐Ÿฏ.๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ%) have achieved this in ๐Ÿด ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—ท๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€.

It is the Ministryโ€™s belief that this demonstrates that some students are performing at a very high level, mastering a broad range of subjects.

To MoBSE, this indicates a promising foundation for many, and with targeted support, these students can boost their performance further.

MoBSE further revealed that the majority of students (around 17% and above) have credit passes in at least one subject, showing that initial steps towards academic success are being taken.

The Ministry described this as a crucial base, demonstrating engagement and potential that can be nurtured.

These statistics according to MoBSE are based on the majority of candidates, ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿด,๐Ÿด๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต (๐Ÿต๐Ÿฎ.๐Ÿต๐Ÿฐ%), citing that ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿต๐Ÿณ incomplete records are still being processed and may influence the final performance data.

โ€œAdditionally, results of ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿญ candidates flagged for suspected examination malpractice have been withheld pending the outcome of the Councilโ€™s adjudication process, underscoring our firm stance against any form of academic dishonesty,โ€ MoBSE reaffirmed.

While the percentage of candidates obtaining credit passes in both English Language (19.8%) and Mathematics (7.3%) remains unacceptably low, MoBSE noted the underscoring persistent challenges in these foundational learning areas, indicating the overall results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), 2025, provide clear evidence of studentsโ€™ remarkable capabilities in several key disciplines.

โ€œA thorough analysis of the results reveals that candidates demonstrated outstanding performances in a selection of subjects, with credit pass rates exceeding 50%,โ€ MoBSE revealed.

The Ministry also stated that these achievements are a testament to the potential and resilience of the students when equipped with the right resources, teaching, and encouragement.
