On Thursday, 27 new attorneys were welcomed to the legal profession by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, who praised their devotion, diligence, and hard work. He exhorted them to preserve court integrity, pursue further studies, and pursue personal development.
Not all of the 554 lawyers in the nation are in active practice. Jallow stressed the value of the private bar and cautioned against practicing alone since it could have an adverse effect on the court.
In his welcome address to newly admitted attorneys, Salieu Taal, president of the Bar Association, underlined the value of upholding the law, following the code of conduct set forth in the Legal Practice Act, getting professional advice, treating judges with deference, and exercising caution when using social media.
The Solicitor General advised newly admitted attorneys to conduct themselves professionally, abstain from discourteous behavior, familiarize themselves with the Legal Practitioner Act’s code of conduct, and not abuse their clients’ trust. She also stressed the significance of integrity, respect, and good manners.
Lamin M. Dibba, who is a new lawyer representing the bar and the audience, thanked the Chief Justice for his motivational remarks, acknowledged his privilege, and pledged to live up to the standards set out.
