Twenty-eight individuals are currently in custody for the possession and trafficking of prohibited drugs, including cannabis sativa, cannabis resin (hashish), cannabis ruderalis (skunk), and kush, as well as obstruction of officers in the due execution of their duties. The arrests were made by various Drug Law Enforcement Agency Gambia (DLEAG) stations across the country.
Muhammed Gai, a 21-year-old tailor from Sinchu Alagie, was arrested by the Wellingara DLEAG station at the Coastal Road Market with a big stone and 37 wraps of suspected cannabis resin concealed in white papers inside a medical sachet. Alagie Darboe, a 28-year-old businessman from Bakau, was arrested by the Bakau DLEAG station with 40 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers inside a multi-color bag. Hamidou Camara, a 27-year-old Sierra Leonean residing in Banjul, was arrested with four wraps of suspected kush concealed in a transparent plastic bag.
Additionally, Mamadoujang Jallow (18), Salieu Sanyang (23), Ebrima Jallow (18), Sawyer Sonko (19), Ousman Njie (21), and Amadou Korika Saidy (23) were jointly arrested in Banjul with 18 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and 26 wraps of suspected kush concealed in a black sock. Demba Cham, a 45-year-old businessman from Jambur Village, was arrested by the Farato DLEAG station with 16 big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper, white and black nylon bags, and placed inside an old refrigerator.
Other arrests include Lamin Sowe and Abdoulie Sanyang from Giboro, Hamadou Sarr from Essau, Alasan Ceesay from Old Yundum, Yusupha Chorr from Lamin NTC, and several others from different locations, each found with various quantities of prohibited drugs concealed in different ways.
Furthermore, Samba Sowe and Bakary Jatta, both residents of Giboro Village, were arrested by the Mandinaba DLEAG station for obstructing officers in the due execution of their duties. They were arrested after the apprehension of Lamin Sowe and Abdoulie Sanyang in Giboro Village.
All suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
