Senegal – Doudou Wade Questioned by Dakar Police, Released Without Charge

Doudou Wade Returns Home

Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Doudou Wade, a former deputy and senior executive of Senegal’s Democratic Party (PDS), was released on Monday evening after several hours of questioning by investigators from the Urban Security Division at the central police station in Dakar.

Wade, who arrived at the police premises around 11 a.m., was heard until about 9 p.m. before being allowed to leave freely, with no charges brought against him and no restrictions placed on his movement.

Speaking briefly to journalists after his release, the former parliamentarian thanked supporters, particularly young people who had gathered in solidarity, as well as police officers for what he described as respectful treatment. “I felt today that I owe a debt to the Senegalese. I am very proud of my people,” he said.

One of his lawyers, Maître El Hadj Amadou Sall, provided further details on the circumstances surrounding the hearing.

According to him, Wade had not received any formal summons from the police or judicial authorities. “It was through the press that he learned about the matter, and he spontaneously decided to present himself this morning,” the lawyer said.

Maître Sall explained that his client was questioned at length and provided clarifications regarding statements he had made during a televised broadcast, which had drawn criticism and prompted the investigation.

He answered precisely and clearly and responded to all the questions put to him,” the lawyer said, adding that Wade’s explanations were “convincing.”

Following the hearing, investigators asked Wade to return home while remaining available to the investigation, according to his counsel.

Maître Sall stressed that no judicial measures were taken against his client. “No ban was served on him, no constraint on his freedom of movement. He can go wherever he wants and do what he wants,” he said.

The lawyer concluded by underscoring that, in a democratic republic, all citizens are subject to justice and investigations when required, noting that Wade has fully complied and returned home “peacefully” after his appearance before investigators.
