Gambiaj.com – (MANJAI, The Gambia) – Police in Manjai are investigating an attempted robbery at a foreign exchange bureau on Tuesday afternoon, after a suspect allegedly entered the premises armed with a knife and tried to steal cash.
The incident occurred between 13:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs at a forex bureau located opposite the Speed Fuel Station in Manjai.
According to preliminary police findings, the male suspect entered the bureau under the pretext of exchanging foreign currency. He reportedly produced a knife during the transaction in an attempt to rob the establishment. In the course of the struggle, the cashier sustained an injury to her finger while resisting the attack.
A member of the public, alerted by the cashier’s distress calls, quickly intervened. The individual disarmed the suspect and escorted him to the Manjai Police Station along with the knife allegedly used in the attempted robbery.
The injured cashier was taken to Kanifing General Hospital, where she received medical treatment and was later discharged.
Crime Scene Investigators and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the scene, secured relevant exhibits, and commenced formal investigations. Police confirmed that the suspect has been cautioned and charged and remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
Management of the forex bureau has confirmed that no cash was lost during the incident.
The Gambia Police Force commended the swift action of the member of the public, describing the intervention as instrumental in preventing the crime.
