Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – Gambian socialite Aisha Fatty on Thursday appeared before the Criminal Court in Dakar to answer to fraud charges stemming from a dispute with her former boyfriend, Senegalese businessman Abdoulaye Thiam.
The case was called before the Dakar Criminal Court but was adjourned to the 12th March to allow Thiam and his legal team to appear and present their arguments.
Fatty was arrested in Karang, transferred to Dakar, and remanded in custody in June 2024 following a legal complaint lodged by Thiam, the CEO of Computer Land, a Senegalese Tech company.
The two were initially locked in flagrante delicto proceedings after Thiam accused his former partner of unlawfully collecting his personal data and distributing intimate images contrary to public morality.
In that earlier case, the court acquitted Fatty of the charges. Thiam had alleged that Fatty was responsible for circulating a nude image of him that he had received electronically.
However, the court found insufficient grounds to sustain the accusation, and the judge who ordered the return of the defendant’s cell phones subsequently terminated the committal warrant, effectively clearing Aisha Fatty in that matter.
Following that legal setback, Thiam filed a fresh complaint accusing Fatty of what he describes as “marriage fraud.” He alleges that after he had invested substantial sums of money into their romantic relationship, Fatty reneged on a promise to marry him.
The businessman is seeking damages amounting to 2.6 million US dollars, approximately 1.5 billion CFA francs.
The court is expected to resume hearings on the adjourned date, when Thiam and his lawyers will formally argue their case.
