Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force is investigating an alleged murder following the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old welder in Manjai Kunda.

Police identified the deceased as Mbaye Dem, a resident of Manjai Kunda, who reportedly sustained a stab wound to the neck during an altercation with Momodou Samba Bah, a 32-year-old mason and Guinean national living in the same compound.

According to the police notice, officers responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident.

The victim was rushed to the Kanifing General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His body was later transferred to the mortuary at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two men, both tenants in the same compound, had earlier engaged in a dispute reportedly linked to the movement of a television channel cable within the premises. The disagreement is believed to have escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal stabbing.

A Crime Scene Investigation team processed the scene and recovered a knife with visible blood stains from the suspect’s residence. The victim’s blood-stained clothing was also secured as part of the evidence.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators as inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
