Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) has urged African governments, regional bodies, and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to fully implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
The call comes as the world marks the 25th anniversary of the landmark resolution, which was adopted in October 2000 to recognize and strengthen the role of women in preventing conflicts, promoting peace, and rebuilding societies.
“Twenty-five years on, the call for women’s meaningful participation in peace and security processes remains as urgent as ever,” the ACDHRS said in a statement.
As a regional human rights organization, ACDHRS reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender equality and amplifying the voices of women and girls across Africa.
The organization acknowledged that women continue to face significant challenges in conflict and post-conflict settings, including gender-based violence and exclusion from decision-making spaces.
“We therefore call on African governments, regional bodies, and all stakeholders to renew their commitments to the full implementation of UNSCR 1325 and its subsequent resolutions,” the statement continued.
“Investing in women’s leadership, ensuring protection from violence, and promoting inclusive governance are not only obligations—they are essential pathways to sustainable peace and development in Africa.”
On this milestone anniversary, the ACDHRS expressed solidarity with women peacebuilders who continue to shape a more just, equitable, and peaceful world.
