Adeola Fayehun Calls Out Trump Over South Africa Land Reform Remarks

Adeola-Fayehun

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Nigerian journalist and social commentator Adeola Eunice Oladele Fayehun has sharply criticized former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments on South Africa’s land reform policies, accusing him of distorting history and pandering to racial fearmongering.

In a video posted on her platform, Fayehun did not hold back in her response to Trump’s claim that the South African government was seizing land from white farmers without compensation. She argued that Trump’s narrative was misleading and failed to acknowledge the historical injustices of land dispossession in South Africa.

Donald Trump is out here defending white farmers in South Africa as if he suddenly cares about Africans,” Fayehun remarked. “But what he refuses to acknowledge is that Black South Africans were the ones whose lands were taken from them in the first place.”

She emphasized that the land issue in South Africa is deeply rooted in apartheid-era policies that concentrated land ownership in the hands of a white minority, leaving Black South Africans dispossessed and marginalized. According to Fayehun, Trump’s statements ignore this critical context.

Let’s not forget that during apartheid, Black people were kicked off their lands, forced into homelands, and had no ownership rights,” she continued. “Now, the government is trying to correct this injustice, and Trump suddenly has a problem with it.”

Trump had previously tweeted about South Africa’s land reform efforts, calling them “a large-scale killing of farmers” and prompting a diplomatic dispute between the U.S. and South Africa. However, Fayehun dismissed his claims, stating that there was no evidence of a government-backed campaign against white farmers.

“Where is the proof that white farmers are being slaughtered by the government?” she asked. “This is the same Trump who called African countries ‘shitholes’—now he wants us to believe he cares about South Africa?

Fayehun also pointed out the hypocrisy of Trump’s position, noting that he has a history of opposing racial justice movements in the United States while claiming to defend white farmers abroad.

He was against Black Lives Matter, but he suddenly cares about farmers in South Africa? This is nothing but an attempt to fuel racial tensions,” she said.

The South African government has consistently stated that its land reform policies aim to address historical injustices and promote economic inclusion, rather than target any particular racial group. Fayehun echoed this sentiment, urging Africans to be wary of Western politicians who seek to exploit African issues for political gain.

Trump is using South Africa to rally his base,” she concluded. “Africans, wake up! Don’t let these foreign politicians use us as pawns in their political games.”

Her remarks have sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users applauding her for challenging Trump’s rhetoric and shedding light on the historical realities of land ownership in South Africa.
