Ahead of the Scorpions’ crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Senegal tomorrow, Bakary Y. Badjie, the Minister of Youth and Sports for the Gambia, gave the much-discussed diplomatic passports to the national team on Sunday evening on behalf of President Adama Barrow.
Bakary Badjie thanked these exceptional representatives of the country on behalf of the President and the government as he presented the players with their diplomatic passports.
According to Minister Badjie, players from all over the world will find it easier to travel with the diplomatic passport.
The significance of diplomatic passports for players was emphasized by Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, President of the Gambia Football Federation.
He expresses gratitude to the Hon. Minister for the president’s efforts in approving the players’ diplomatic passports.
“I was present in Marrakesh when the president received the request, and it was deemed completed by the head of state,” adds Bajo.
The Scorpions’ captain, Omar Colley, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the players and technical staff. He stated that they value the president’s backing.
“I truly want to thank the president for keeping his word on behalf of the players and the entire technical staff. We are truly appreciative of having a president like him. He has provided a lot of support for us, and we cannot thank him enough. We will make him proud on Monday, he concluded.
To encourage the Scorpions ahead of their match against Senegal tomorrow, a group of National Coordinating Committee (NCC) members visited the training area earlier on Sunday afternoon. The NCC is chaired by Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports.
