Gambiaj.com – (VELINGARA, Senegal) – A Senegalese national identified as O.D., originally from Vélingara, has been arrested by Senegalese authorities after allegedly robbing over one million Dalasis in Serekunda, The Gambia, and fleeing across the border.
According to Senegalese security sources in Vélingara, O.D. had recently traveled from Vélingara to Serekunda, where he is accused of committing the high-value theft before attempting to escape back to Senegal to evade Gambian law enforcement.
His escape, however, was short-lived. The Gambian police, after identifying the suspect, promptly shared his photograph and his detailed description with their Senegalese counterparts.
This swift coordination enabled the Vélingara territorial gendarmerie brigade, under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Tidiane Senghor, to launch an immediate search operation.
The joint effort between Gambian and Senegalese security forces quickly yielded results. O.D. was tracked down and apprehended in Vélingara following a well-coordinated manhunt.
He has since been placed in custody and was expected to be brought before the competent court on Thursday to face charges related to the theft.
The arrest underscores the growing cooperation between Gambian and Senegalese law enforcement agencies in combating cross-border crime in the subregion.
