Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The High Court in Banjul has adjourned the civil case involving Gambian socialite Aisha Fatty and Senegalese businessman Abdoulaye Thiam after Fatty failed to appear in court on Wednesday.
Her lawyer, Kaddijah K. Jallow, informed Justice Ebrima Jaiteh that Fatty is currently on bail in Senegal and is unable to travel to The Gambia due to her involvement in an ongoing court case in Dakar.
Jallow argued that it would be unjust to proceed in her absence and requested the matter be postponed to the next legal term.
“There’s a pending court matter in Senegal, and she’s unable to leave the jurisdiction. In the interest of justice, we request a new date,” Jallow said in court.
Thiam’s lawyer, L.S. Sanyang, did not object to the request. Both parties agreed that October would be suitable for the resumption of the case. Justice Jaiteh subsequently set 16th October 2025 at 10:00 a.m. as the new date, with Fatty expected to open her defense virtually via Zoom.
The judge also advised that Thiam may attend the hearing via Zoom and directed that virtual access links be shared with both parties ahead of the session.
According to Jallow, Fatty remains under a court order in Dakar restricting her from international travel and is also caring for a baby, further complicating her ability to appear physically in Banjul.
The civil suit was filed by Thiam, who accuses Fatty of obtaining millions of CFA francs from him through false representation during their relationship. In testimony delivered earlier this month, Thiam claimed he gave Fatty two Mercedes-Benz vehicles and spent over 122 million CFA on gold transactions intended for business.
He added that the vehicles were procured through his U.S.-based company and shipped to The Gambia.
Some of the documentation submitted to the court has been challenged by Fatty’s legal team, but Thiam maintained that the receipts bear his signature.
Fatty is now expected to present her side of the story when the case resumes in October.
