British resident Alan Boardman is launching a campaign to supply underprivileged families in the Gambia with eyeglasses.
Alan Boardman, who has raised thousands of euros for deserving causes in the area with his Mijas Walking Tours group, is traveling to the smallest country in West Africa, where he says that “even though it’s an improving situation, there is an acute need for spectacles of all kinds,” after learning that many Gambians cannot afford to purchase glasses.
During their winter vacation, Alan and his spouse Jenny are taking advantage of the chance to provide the glasses. They have been connected to two Gambian NGOs that will provide the glasses to the most deserving people.
Like many other African nations, The Gambia is having difficulty resolving enduring issues with its healthcare system. A third of people live below the international poverty line in some of the world’s poorest nations. According to WHO data, just 50% of Gambians are aware they have a vision issue, despite the fact that one in three of them require refractive error correction.
