Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – In a recent appearance on the “Grand Jury” program on TFM, Alioune Tine, founder of the Africajom Center and a prominent figure in Senegalese civil society, expressed deep concern about the country’s political direction. He warned of a growing “dividing line” that is fragmenting society and called for urgent measures to address this widening rift.

Tine’s analysis painted a troubling picture of Senegal’s political landscape. He criticized the current administration for increasingly isolating itself and neglecting a significant portion of the population. “There is a kind of dividing line, a sort of discrimination that many Senegalese suffer from,” Tine cautioned, emphasizing that this division is a direct result of the new government’s approach.

We are at a crossroads,” Tine stated, urging the authorities to engage in “renewed dialogue” and adopt more inclusive governance practices. He stressed the importance of mobilizing society as a whole, rather than retreating into partisan circles.

In a pointed critique of the current political dynamics, Tine remarked that while Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye holds the title of President of the Republic, it is Ousmane Sonko who effectively governs the country.

Tine noted widespread dissatisfaction and advised the Prime Minister to create a more peaceful and substantive political environment. “There is no substantive debate today,” he observed, while also acknowledging Sonko’s willingness to engage in discussions with the opposition.

However, Tine expressed concern about Sonko’s dual role as both head of government and party leader, which he believes creates confusion and inaccessibility. “Many ask, but no one sees him… Sonko needs to resolve this contradiction,” Tine advised, suggesting that Sonko might have been better suited for the presidency, where his role would have been clearer and more effective.

Tine’s remarks underscore the urgency of addressing the political fractures within Senegal, calling for a more inclusive approach to governance that can bridge the growing divides in society.
