Real Madrid will take on Manchester City in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, while Arsenal has drawn Bayern Munich.
In order to proceed, City easily defeated FC Copenhagen of Denmark, winning 3-1 both at home and away. After a 1-1 draw in Spain and a 1-0 victory away in Germany, Real Madrid moved to the quarterfinals despite facing a tough test from RB Leipzig.
The last time Manchester City and Real Madrid faced each other was not distant in the past. In order to capture the triple crown, City easily defeated Los Blancos at the Etihad Stadium in May of last year.
But all we have to do is go back a year to witness the Madrid triumph. Rodrygo scored twice when his team appeared to be out of the game, and Karim Benzema sealed the deal in extra time.
A third meeting in three seasons sets up a potentially dramatic tie.
If City and Arsenal win their respective quarter-finals, they will play off in an all-Premier League semi-final.
In the other games, Atletico Madrid was drawn against Borussia Dortmund in Friday’s quarter-final draw in Nyon, Switzerland, while Paris Saint-Germain will face Barcelona. The victors of those ties will advance to the other semi-final.
