Another Suspect Apprehended in Ballanghar Armed Robbery Case

Gambiaj.com – (Ballanghar, CRR) – The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the arrest of another suspect, Amadou Bah, in connection with the armed robbery that took place in Ballanghar Kerr Nderry, Central River Region, on the evening of March 22, 2025.

The suspect identified as one Amadou Bah, a Senegalese national from Sare Wurry, was apprehended by villagers following a hot pursuit. A bag containing D29,910 and 93,000 CFA was recovered from him. During preliminary investigations, he admitted to being part of the armed robbery along with three other fugitives, all of whom are Senegalese nationals.

According to Bah’s confession, the rifle used during the robbery, a hunting gun, belonged to the deceased suspect, Yerro Sheikh Sowe. The firearm and three live bullets remain unaccounted for, and law enforcement authorities are actively searching for them as part of the ongoing investigation.

What really happened

The police had initially responded swiftly to the reported armed robbery, which targeted two shops—one belonging to Hadim Touray and another owned by a Mauritanian trader. The timely intervention by the police, in coordination with regional security forces and the cooperation of Ballanghar residents, played a crucial role in containing the situation.

During the confrontation with the armed robbers, one suspect, identified as Yerro Sheikh Sowe, a Senegalese from Rosso, Senegal, sustained a gunshot wound. He was first stabilized at Kaur Health Centre before being transferred to Farafenni General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A combined investigative team from Police Headquarters has been dispatched to support the regional response team in tracking down the remaining suspects and gathering further intelligence.

The Gambia Police Force has commended the community of Ballanghar for their solidarity and swift action in assisting law enforcement. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to the nearest police station or call 9968885.
