Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR) – Bah Diakhate and Imam Cheikh Tidiane Ndao have been sentenced to three months in prison for spreading false news. In addition to the prison sentence, they will have to pay a fine of 100,000 CFA francs each. However, both were acquitted of offenses against a person exercising presidential prerogatives.

Activist Bah Diakhaté was arrested two weeks ago by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) after publishing a video attacking Ousmane Sonko. These attacks followed a statement by the latter on the subject of homosexuality, made during the visit of French left-wing opponent Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

For his part, the preacher Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Ndao had criticized Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in another video for what he described as complacency towards homosexuality.

The prosecutor had requested a prison sentence of six months against Bah Diakhate and Imam Cheikh Tidiane Ndao during the trial which was held Monday at the Dakar Court for flagrante delictos.

Finally, the court delivered its verdict by sentencing the two men to three months in prison, accompanied by a fine of 100,000 CFA francs each, while acquitting them of charges of insulting a person exercising presidential prerogatives.
