Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Ferry operations along the Banjul-Barra route are continuing smoothly despite scheduled technical works on the docking infrastructure, authorities confirmed on Friday.

According to ferry management, the works involve striking and reinforcing piles at the docking area as part of a broader upgrade project. The process, described as both “essential and timely“, is intended to enhance the long-term safety and reliability of ferry services.

This morning, experts conducted technical measurements and successfully struck the piles down to ground level.

During this stage, ferries operated at half capacity to allow the work to proceed safely. With the piling completed, the Kunta Kinteh ferry has since resumed boarding and transporting passengers and vehicles across the river.

The next phase of the work will see concrete poured in the evening, a process that will further strengthen the docking structure. Authorities have announced that from tomorrow, only one ferry will operate for a three-day period to allow the concrete to cure properly.

Management assured the public that there are no issues with the ferries themselves and that the current works are strictly related to infrastructure improvements.

Passengers are being advised to plan their travel accordingly to accommodate the temporary schedule adjustment.
