Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Banjul Magistrate Court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Krubally, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Sanna Manjang, a former Gambian soldier and alleged member of the notorious Junglers death squad.

The warrant was granted following an application submitted by Assistant Superintendent E. Sarr of the Gambia Police Force, who cited a request from Interpol Washington, United States National Central Bureau. The correspondence, dated February 25, 2025, sought confirmation on whether Manjang remained a wanted fugitive in The Gambia and requested a copy of his arrest warrant along with the case reference number.

Dear colleagues, is Sanna MANJANG still wanted by your country? If so, please provide a copy of the arrest warrant,” read the Interpol request.

Manjang, a longtime member of former President Yahya Jammeh’s paramilitary hit squad, has been implicated in numerous human rights violations, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, torture, and sexual violence during the Jammeh regime (1994-2016). He is believed to be among the longest-serving members of the Junglers, an elite group accused of carrying out state-sponsored executions.

With the court-issued warrant, Gambian authorities may now take steps to apprehend Manjang and bring him to trial. His whereabouts, however, remain unknown.

This latest development signals renewed efforts to hold former perpetrators of state violence accountable, following the recommendations of The Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), which documented crimes committed during Jammeh’s rule.
