Bassirou Diomaye Faye Sworn in as Fifth President of Senegal

Bassirou Diomaye Faye was sworn in on April 2, 2024, in Diamniadio, becoming the fifth president in the country’s history. He succeeds Macky Sall, who served as head of state from 2012 to 2024. The inauguration ceremony took place at the exhibition hall of the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center in Diamniadio (CICAD).

Upon his arrival, Bassirou Dimomaye Faye was seated alongside members of the Constitutional Council.

The ceremony was attended by heads of state, foreign ministers, and presidents of institutions from across the African continent.

Among those present were the presidents of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, Guinea, and Mauritania.

Also in attendance were the Vice President of Côte d’Ivoire, Thiémoko Meyliet Koné, the President of the National Transition Council in Mali, Colonel Malick Diaw, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, and the President of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso.
