The Government of Guinea-Bissau will reinstate teachers and doctors who were suspended by the previous Executive in January.
“The Council of Ministers has decided that the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Public Administration, Labor and Modernization of State and National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Public Health will proceed as soon as possible to complete the process of reintegration of teachers and readmission of health cadres in suspension, beginning in January 2024,” reads a statement sent to the press today.
In September 2022, Nuno Gomes Nabian’s government suspended over a thousand teachers and doctors, sparking a series of protests.
The government did not specify how many professionals would be reintegrated in the statement.
