Access Bank Brusubi

(Gambiaj.com – BANJUL, The Gambia) – Two armed robberies occurred on the same day (Wednesday) in The Gambia, raising alarm over increasing security concerns. The first incident took place at Access Bank in Brusubi, where three armed men orchestrated a swift three-minute heist, followed by a separate violent robbery at a Western Union bureau in Kunkujang Badjie Estate.

Access Bank Heist in Brusubi

At approximately 1:33 PM, three men entered Access Bank through the main entrance, according to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Each carried a pistol, with one suspect brandishing a short gun, causing the bank’s security officers to flee and take cover.

The robbers proceeded to collect an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller’s counter. Thankfully, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the incident. The men exited the bank through the same route they had entered and fled in a Benz V-Boot vehicle, notably lacking a license plate.

Western Union Bureau Robbery in Kunkujang Badjie Estate

Less than two hours later, at 2:56 PM, another robbery occurred at a Western Union bureau in Kunkujang Badjie Estate. According to the bureau’s employee, Yankuba Darboe, three men entered the premises, one wielding a pistol. The robbers restrained Darboe before stealing cash totaling D77,275.

Authorities are appealing to the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators. They have assured citizens that updates will be provided as investigations progress.

These incidents have sparked renewed concerns about public safety and the security of financial institutions in The Gambia.
