Gambiaj.com – (OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso) – Burkina Faso unveiled its new biometric passport on Tuesday, September 3. Designed by the Chinese company EMPTECH, this advanced travel document is at the forefront of technology, according to Perfect Louré, Director General of the National Identification Office.
Louré noted, “It belongs to the latest generation of passports recommended by international civil aviation authorities.”
Furthermore, this new passport features online pre-registration and offers flexible enrollment options, both online and offline. It also enables instant data transfer to embassies, enhancing security, according to Louré. A notable feature of this passport is its electronic chip, which collects and stores data. However, it does not include the traditional wording or the ECOWAS logo.
It is worth noting that Burkina Faso recently exited the ECOWAS community, following similar moves by Mali and Niger. This new passport reflects the country’s departure from the organization, a decision that has been met with disapproval from Abuja, the capital of ECOWAS, during President Bola Tinubu’s term.
The cost of the new passport remains at 50,000 CFA francs, the same as the previous version. However, additional amenities authorized by the previous passport may incur extra charges, explained Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana.
