Gambiaj.com – (Abuko, The Gambia) – Police in Abuko are investigating a case of “obtaining money by false pretenses” involving a 49-year-old businesswoman from Latrikunda Sabiji, who was defrauded of D750,000 by individuals posing as legitimate farming entrepreneurs.
The incident was reported on November 14, 2024, after the victim became suspicious when the alleged scammers, who initially convinced her to invest in a farming venture, demanded additional funds beyond the original sum.
Following her complaint to the Abuko police station, an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of three suspects in Jarra Soma and other locations. During initial interrogations, the suspects reportedly admitted to orchestrating the fraud.
The suspects have since been cautioned, charged, and detained while police continue their efforts to trace the stolen funds and apprehend any additional accomplices involved in the scheme.
In a statement, the Gambia Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to combating fraud and urged the public to remain vigilant against similar scams.
“Scammers often employ convincing tactics to gain the trust of their victims. We encourage everyone to verify the credibility of any business dealings before parting with their hard-earned money,” the statement emphasized.
As investigations proceed, the police have assured the public of their determination to bring all culprits to justice and recover the funds.
