Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) — Vice President Mohammed B. S. Jallow led a critical cabinet session on the 2025 fiscal budget, reviewing revenue estimates and expenditure plans to advance the government’s agenda of inclusive and sustainable development. The meeting, held at the State House in Banjul, focused on aligning the budget with The Gambia’s National Development Plan (NDP) and addressing priority areas crucial for the nation’s growth.
Acting on behalf of President Adama Barrow, who is on annual leave, Vice President Jallow steered discussions on a proposed budget that emphasizes key sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, security, energy, and infrastructure.
Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, who also oversees Communications, stated that the cabinet had approved the proposal, paving the way for its presentation to the National Assembly for ratification.
“This budget is strategically aligned with the NDP to enhance essential services,” the minister noted in a post-session briefing with the state broadcaster, GRTS. “The goal is to strengthen human capital by fostering a more resilient, inclusive growth that supports ‘inclusive prosperity’ for all Gambians.”
The government’s emphasis on human capital and equitable development comes amid economic challenges, with high inflation impacting household purchasing power across the country. While detailed allocations to ministries have not yet been disclosed, boosting critical services will go a long way to improving living standards and promoting economic resilience.
For many Gambians, there is a need for tangible improvements in essential services and opportunities. According to analysts, the budget’s success will depend on careful allocations and implementation amid The Gambia’s challenging economic landscape.
As the country awaits further details on budget allocations, the proposed 2025 fiscal plan is highly anticipated for sustainable development and better livelihoods.
