This visit underscores the Gambian government’s commitment to bolstering local food production and reducing dependency on imported staples.

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The National Assembly Committee on Agriculture has recently embarked on a nationwide fact-finding mission to agricultural marketing societies (SECCOS) following concerns raised about the 2023/24 groundnut trade season. The mission began April 30th and ended May 6th. It aimed to address a D32 million shortfall identified in various SECCOS, as disclosed by the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC).

Gambiaj.com – The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved an additional $16.08 million in funding for The Gambia to enhance its ongoing Agriculture and Food Security Project. Launched in 2021, the project aims to improve food security and increase the incomes of vulnerable households in the country.

In a significant move towards strengthening animal health in The Gambia, the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under the Ministry of Agriculture has forged a strategic partnership with the Gam United Breeders Association (GUBA). This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held earlier today.

President Adama Barrow announced on Day One of his Meet the People Tour that the government of The Gambia will purchase farmers’ groundnuts at an increased price of D 38,000 per ton. The government’s price per ton last year was D32,000.

Demba Sabally, Gambia’s Minister of agriculture, has praised China’s aid and assistance projects to his country as “extremely meaningful” and have begun to transform his country’s agricultural sector and farmer population.
