Semlex Won’t Issue IDs, Drivers Licenses Until Contract is Settled

Semlex, the company that makes Gambian ID cards and driver licenses, demands that the government of The Gambia enter into a full contract renewal with the company before it resumes operations, according to The Standard Newspaper, which cited a reliable source with knowledge of the country’s biometric document operations. Since Sunday, Semlex has not conducted business in The Gambia.

Expired Agreement Between Gov’t and Semlex Blocks Issuance of ID Documents

Ebrima G. Sankareh, the Government Spokesperson and Presidential Diaspora Adviser, announced today that the contract for the production of biometric ID cards and related documents, signed on July 17th, 2018, with Semlex Group SA, has recently expired. Mr Sankareh made the disclosure while discussing the recent halt in the issuance of Gambian identity cards, passports, and driver’s licenses.
