Court Denies Bail for Drug Possession Suspect

Kanifing-Court

Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – Magistrate E. Colley, presiding over the Kanifing Magistrates Court, refused bail for Bakary Minteh, who was arraigned for possession of 215g and 20mg of marijuana, a prohibited drug, by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG).

The prosecutor, E.S Ceesay, representing the DLEAG, informed the court that he did not object to bail but requested that the accused be warned to comply with bail conditions if granted.

Ceesay explained that Minteh had failed to comply with bail terms at the DLEAG level when previously granted bail.

Magistrate E. Colley acknowledged that the offence was bailable but stated that bail was at the discretion of the court. Considering the prosecution’s information about the accused’s failure to comply with bail at the DLEAG level, the magistrate refused bail for Minteh until the next hearing date.

Minteh was charged with possession of a prohibited drug, contrary to section 352(2) of the Drug Control Act 2003, laws of The Gambia. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The case was adjourned until 23rd May 2024.
