Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The High Court, presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, has granted an order for Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd in India to be served through the Times Newspaper. This decision was made following an application by lawyer Loubna Farage, representing the defendants in a case involving the death of children allegedly caused by contaminated cough syrups.
Justice Jaiteh also indicated that he would make the necessary order for the matter to be heard during mediation week, scheduled for 20-24 May 2024.
The case has seen an increase in the number of victims filing suits against Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd and other defendants, including the Medicine Control Agency, Ministry of Health, and the Attorney General.
During the proceedings, Lawyer D. Binga, representing the state, requested an extension to file a statement of defence, a request not opposed by Farage.
The plaintiffs are seeking a court declaration that the death of their children was caused by the consumption of contaminated cough syrups and oral solutions manufactured by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd in India, imported and distributed in The Gambia by Atlantic Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd.
