Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Ministry of Defence has announced a strict prohibition on the flying or operation of drones, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and other aerial objects over key national installations, citing national security and public safety concerns.

In a public notice, the ministry said the ban applies to sensitive locations, including State House, Banjul International Airport, and all defense and security installations, as well as the surrounding restricted airspace.

Any unauthorized aerial activity within these areas, it warned, will be treated as a serious security violation and will attract severe consequences.

The ministry emphasized that the restriction is being enforced in line with national security measures and existing aviation and public safety laws.

Under the directive, no individual, organization, or institution is permitted to operate drones or similar UAVs without explicit written authorization from the competent authorities.

Defence and security agencies have been instructed to take appropriate action against any unauthorized aerial activity detected within the restricted zones.

The Ministry of Defence has urged all public and private drone operators to comply fully with the directive and called on citizens and residents to cooperate in safeguarding national security and maintaining public safety.
