The murder trial in the case of State vs Ousainou Bojang and his sister Amie Bojang continued today as Detective Ebou Sowe concluded his cross-examination. The court proceedings saw various legal representatives present, including the Director of Public Prosecution A.M. Yusuf, A. Drammeh for the State, Counsel J Darboe for the first accused, and Counsel L. Mboge and O. Senghore for the second accused.
During the session, the court requested the presentation of the anti-crime station diary, which was provided by Detective Sowe and subsequently admitted into evidence as Exhibit D3, covering the period from September 13 to September 23, 2023.
Counsel L. Mboge questioned Detective Sowe about the timing of the cautionary statement obtained from the first accused, raising concerns about his state of mind during the interrogation. However, an objection was raised, and the question was withdrawn.
Further questioning from Counsel L. Mboge focused on the activities recorded in the diary, including the accused leading investigators to his house in Brufut and the timing of obtaining statements. Detective Sowe clarified the details, emphasizing that the accused was not under interrogation continuously and providing specific times for various events.
The session also delved into the presence of Alieu Cham at the anti-crime station and his role as an independent witness. Detective Sowe explained the circumstances of Cham’s involvement and clarified details related to the statements obtained from the accused.
As the cross-examination concluded, Detective Sowe was discharged without re-examination. The prosecution then called Alieu Cham as the second witness in the voir dire trial, focusing on allegations that Ousainou Bojang was drugged and beaten during the statement-taking process.
Cham, a businessman residing in Sukuta, testified about his interactions with Detective Sowe and Ousainou Bojang at the anti-crime station in September 2023. He recounted being asked by Sowe to act as an independent witness for a case and described the process of taking statements, including his role in facilitating communication between Sowe, Bojang, and another individual involved in the case.
The court adjourned the case to Monday, February 12, 2024.
