Gambiaj.com – (ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast) – Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, announced that a low-pressure tyre on one of its aircraft in Abidjan led to the grounding of the plane and subsequent flight delays to The Gambia and Senegal.
In a statement released on Thursday, Air Peace’s management detailed the incident, stating, “The aircraft operating Lagos-Abidjan-Banjul-Dakar flights on May 29, 2024, had a low-pressure tyre on the ground in Abidjan, which disrupted the onward flights to Banjul and Dakar.”
The crew discovered the tyre issue while on the ground in Abidjan and decided to ground the aircraft immediately for safety reasons. This decision caused delays in flights across the airline’s network.
Air Peace expressed empathy towards the passengers affected by the disruption. The airline confirmed that another aircraft was dispatched to Abidjan to transport the passengers to their destinations.
The airline also addressed misinformation circulating online. “We have seen a video in which the originator alleged emergency landing and lack of passenger care. This is grossly false and misleading,” Air Peace clarified. They emphasized that food and hotel accommodations were provided for passengers bound for Banjul and Dakar. Although there was a delay in securing hotel accommodations for Abidjan passengers due to transit times, the airline eventually arranged for their stay.
Air Peace reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, stating that all actions taken were in the best interest of ensuring the safety of its passengers. The airline apologized for the inconveniences caused by the unforeseen situation.
