The Drug Enforcement Law Agency (DLEAG) in The Gambia has reported a series of arrests in recent days, targeting individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. These arrests were made by various DLEAG stations across the country and have resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances.
On the 4th of March 2024, a 25-year-old Gambian was apprehended by the Brikama Police Intervention Unit (PIU) unit. The suspect was found in possession of 62 wraps of suspected kush, concealed in white paper and placed inside a medicine sachet.
The following day, a 27-year-old Sierra Leonean, Muhammed Ceesay, residing in Brikama Newtown, was arrested by the Brikama DLEAG station. Ceesay was found with quantities of suspected kush concealed in two separate black nylon bags, placed inside a black and grey-colored bag respectively.
In another operation on the 3rd of March 2024, a 20-year-old resident of Kololi, Famara Senghore, was arrested by the Bundung DLEAG station. Senghore was found with two parcels and seven wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white papers.
Similarly, a 29-year-old resident of Sukuta, Musa Jah, was arrested by the Bundung DLEAG station on the same day. Jah was found with ten wraps of suspected kush concealed in white papers and placed inside a medicine sachet.
On the 3rd of March 2024, a 38-year-old resident of London Corner, Alieu Camara, was arrested by the Manjai DLEAG station. Camara was found with 21 parcels and quantities of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white paper and placed inside a multi-color nylon bag respectively.
In Banjul, a 32-year-old resident of Churchills Town, Momodou Bah, was arrested by the Banjul DLEAG station on the 4th of March 2024. Bah was found with 13 wraps of suspected kush concealed in white paper and placed in a transparent nylon bag.
Additionally, a 37-year-old resident of Banjul, Amadou Sanno, was arrested by the Banjul DLEAG station on the 2nd of March 2024. Sanno was found with one wrap of suspected kush concealed in white paper.
Lastly, on the 5th of March 2024, a 27-year-old resident of Bwiam, Chendou Ceesay, was arrested by the Sibanor DLEAG station. Ceesay was found with four big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper, a multi-color bag, and placed inside a black medium suitcase respectively.
The DLEAG continues to carry out operations to combat drug trafficking in The Gambia, and these recent arrests highlight their ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the country.
