DLEAG’s Weekend Raids – Multiple Drug Peddlers Arrested in The Gambia

Over the past weekend, agents from the Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) in The Gambia have been on a relentless mission to crack down on drug trafficking and consumption. Their efforts have yielded significant results, with several arrests and the seizure of various illicit substances that are wreaking havoc in Gambian society.

In a series of raids and searches conducted by joint operation teams, a number of individuals have been apprehended for their involvement in drug-related activities. Ebrima Sankeh, a 25-year-old Sierra Leonean residing in New Jeshwang, was arrested on March 1st, 2024, with 80 wraps of suspected kush concealed in two separate medicine sachets inside an orange-colored hand glove.

Another suspect, 19-year-old Cherno Juma Bah, also from Sierra Leone and residing in Tallinding, was arrested on the same day with 16 wraps of suspected kush and 10 tablets of tramadol concealed in medicine sachets.

On March 2nd, 24-year-old Sainey Sanyang, a Gambian national residing in Kanifing Layout, was arrested at Qcity with two wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and 22 pieces of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) concealed in a cigarette packet and a pink cross bag, respectively.

Similarly, 23-year-old Daniel Mendy, a Gambian resident of Busumbala, was arrested at Qcity on March 2nd with 20 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper and nylon bags.

Sulayman Sabally, a 26-year-old resident of Kerr Sering, was arrested at Qcity on March 3rd with 48 wraps of suspected cannabis resin, 45 wraps of suspected kush, and 7 pills of ecstasy concealed in medicine sachets.

Lastly, 25-year-old Sulayman Jallow, a Gambian resident of Serrekunda, was arrested on March 2nd with 10 pills of ecstasy and 1 stone of suspected cannabis resin concealed in medicine sachets.

All suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing. The DLEAG remains committed to combating drug trafficking and consumption in The Gambia to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
