DPP Challenges Ousainou Bojang’s Testimony in Cross-Examination Over Police Killings

Ousainou-Bojang

Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Abdurrahman Maitama Yusuf, continued his intense cross-examination of Ousainou Bojang, the man accused of fatally shooting two police officers at Sukuta Jabang traffic on September 12, 2023. Bojang, who has denied the charges, faced pointed questioning aimed at scrutinizing inconsistencies in his testimony.

During the session, the prosecution focused on Bojang’s communication records, movements, and interactions before and after the incident. The DPP questioned him about his phone calls, particularly with CID officer Ousman Manneh, whom Bojang admitted speaking to on September 12 but could not recall the exact number of times he called between September 10 and 13.

When pressed further, he conceded that it was “possible” he contacted Manneh on September 13 but maintained that he had spoken to many people that day.

Another line of questioning centered on Bojang’s travel to Ziguinchor. The DPP asked if he had informed any family members in the area about his visit. Bojang confirmed he had relatives there but stated that he did not notify them because the trip was for personal reasons.

The prosecution also examined Bojang’s claim of reading a government press statement while in detention at Mile 2 Prison. He said his lawyer provided him with multiple newspapers, though he could not recall the exact date.

Further probing sought to challenge his account of events on September 12, particularly regarding his whereabouts that night.

The DPP confronted Bojang about an alleged meeting with his girlfriend, which he denied, stating instead that he was chatting with his boss, Catherine, due to unresolved issues with a different partner.

The session ended with the DPP requesting records from previous proceedings to continue his cross-examination. The court granted the request and adjourned the case to March 24 at 2:15 PM, with subsequent hearings scheduled for March 25, April 7, April 8, and April 14.

With the cross-examination set to resume, the court will hear further testimonies as the legal battle over Bojang’s alleged involvement in the deadly shooting unfolds.
