Driver Remanded for Reckless Car Drifting That Injured Student at Abuko School

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has taken swift legal action following a reckless car drifting incident at Abuko School that left a Grade 6 student critically injured.

The driver, Malick Badjie, was charged with one count of reckless and negligent act contrary to Section 190 of the Criminal Offense Act, 2025, after he dangerously drifted his vehicle within the school zone and struck 12-year-old Abdourahman Bah.

The boy sustained serious injuries but did not require amputation. He has since undergone surgery and is reported to be responding well to treatment at the hospital.

Badjie appeared before Magistrate Dibba at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 22, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. The police prosecutor outlined the facts of the case, and the matter was adjourned to Thursday, July 24, for the presentation of the victim’s medical report and sentencing.

The accused has been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prisons pending the next hearing.

In a statement, the Gambia Police Force reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward reckless driving and condemned the practice of car drifting, particularly near schools and public spaces. The Force emphasized its commitment to holding violators accountable to protect lives and ensure public safety.
