Gambiaj.com- (BANJUL) – In a series of coordinated operations, the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested multiple individuals in connection with the possession of significant quantities of suspected cannabis and other narcotics. The arrests, which took place over several days, highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug-related activities in the country.
On May 5, 2024, Lamin Manga (25), a resident of Kanfenda, and Alfusainey Sanneh (41) of Burom, were apprehended by the Sibanor DLEAG station on the outskirts of Bunoborr village. They were found with five bundles and one wrap of suspected cannabis sativa, concealed in cement papers and stored inside a camouflage bag. The suspects were using a blue motorcycle without a registration number at the time of arrest.
On May 8, 2024, Banjul DLEAG officers arrested Alpha Ceesay (18), a conductor from Kiang Kaif, at Half Die with three wraps of suspected kush hidden in white papers. On the same day, Habibou Njie (24), from Sinchu Alagie, was detained by Bundung DLEAG with fourteen wraps of suspected cannabis sativa inside a small black bag.
Later that evening, Abdourahman Jallow (20), a tileman from Sukuta, was arrested by Bundung DLEAG at around 22:30 hours with twenty-four wraps of suspected kush concealed in old newspapers and a medical sachet.
On May 9, 2024, Banjul DLEAG arrested Matarr Njie (41), a carpenter from Banjul, with five packs and five wraps of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in a large black pack. That same day, Phillip Mustapha Gomez from Gunjur was arrested by Sifoe DLEAG at Gunjur Beach with three sachets of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) hidden in medical sachets.
Additionally, George Dianko from Kololi was found with three plastic bags of suspected cannabis ruderalis during a search at Mile II Central Prison. Lamin Cham (28) from Sukuta was arrested by Sifoe DLEAG at Gunjur on May 9 with thirteen pieces of suspected cannabis ruderalis concealed in foil paper, white paper, and nylon bags.
On May 11, 2024, Brusubi DLEAG officers arrested Ebrima Sanka (48), a driver from Latri Kunda Sabiji, Modou Sanyang (44), a businessman from Sinchu Alagie, and Adama Sidibeh (43), a herbalist from Wellingara, at Brufut Taf Estate. They were found with twenty big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement papers and a black BMW X5 with registration number BJL 5638 S.
Lastly, Alagie Sillah (20), a painter from Nema Kunku, was arrested by Manjai DLEAG on May 11 with twenty wraps of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in white papers and a transparent nylon bag.
All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. The series of arrests underscores the DLEAG’s commitment to tackling drug-related offenses and maintaining public safety.
