ECOWAS Commends Gambia’s Leadership in Advancing Social Protection Dialogue

Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has lauded the Government of The Gambia for its leadership in hosting the Gambia International Conference on Social Protection, held from October 20 to 22, 2025, in Banjul.

In a statement, the Commission described the conference as a decisive milestone in advancing inclusive and adaptive social protection systems across West Africa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Sintiki Tarfa Ugbe, ECOWAS Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, praised The Gambia’s commitment to fostering regional dialogue and innovation in social policy.

The conference sets a benchmark for inclusive policy development and intergovernmental cooperation within the ECOWAS region,” Dr. Ugbe said.

Organized by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) under the auspices of the Office of the Vice President, His Excellency Muhammed B.S. Jallow, the three-day event convened policymakers, development partners, civil society organizations, and international experts.

Held under the theme “Building Inclusive and Adaptive Social Protection Systems for Sustainable Development,” the conference provided a platform for countries to share experiences and strengthen collaboration in addressing poverty, inequality, and vulnerability through sustainable social protection mechanisms.
