Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The new cash collection system at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, in collaboration with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), has significantly increased revenue. Implemented just a month ago, the program mandates that GTBank, with tellers installed at the hospital and its annexes, receives payment for all consultations and expenses.
Although the exact amounts collected by GTBank between March 5 and April 5 have not been disclosed, a reliable hospital source has indicated that the bank received almost 240% more money than it did in February 2024—less than D2 million.
When contacted by Standard Newspaper for comment, Malick Mboob, the bank’s group head for the public sector business, cited stringent customer confidentiality as preventing him from speaking to the media on behalf of his company. He directed inquiries to the hospital administration.
The initiative has garnered widespread praise in the healthcare industry, despite initial opposition. According to a hospital source, as of April 5th, GTBank tellers had collected about D5 million, indicating a notable increase in revenue collection.
The source emphasized that the rise in revenue suggests that significant sums of money were previously lost to theft and leaks. The program has been recognized for its effectiveness, with a source at the Ministry of Finance confirming that it has yielded unprecedented benefits and is likely to be replicated in other healthcare institutions nationwide.
