Gambiaj.com – (MALABO) – Equatorial Guinea has been rocked by a scandal involving Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) and son of Baltasar Engonga Edjoo, the current president of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). Engonga finds himself embroiled in an unprecedented controversy following the online circulation of nearly 400 intimate videos depicting him in compromising situations.
The leaked footage, discovered during an unrelated fraud investigation, revealed a shocking series of encounters with numerous women, some of whom are married and hold connections to high-profile figures.
Notable individuals implicated include the wife of the Director of Presidential Security, the wife of the Attorney General, the daughter of the Inspector General of Police, and spouses of various ministers, including Minister Oburu. The scandal also implicated close family members, such as the wife of Engonga’s younger brother and the pregnant wife of his uncle, as well as the sister of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
Sources indicate that over 400 videos were found on Engonga’s office computer, reportedly recorded with consent. However, their subsequent leak has incited widespread public outrage and significant reputational damage across the upper echelons of government.
Responding to the public uproar, Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter). He condemned the revelations and emphasized that government workplaces are exclusively for administrative duties, warning against any misconduct within their confines.
“Given the abuse that has been shown on social media in Equatorial Guinea in recent days, and remembering that ministries are solely and exclusively for carrying out administrative work in support of the country’s development, sexual relations in offices are prohibited,” Nguema declared. He further noted that new control measures have been established to prevent future violations, stating that any official found engaging in such acts would face disciplinary action and dismissal.
The scandal has underscored a growing crisis of accountability within Equatorial Guinea’s political structure, sparking discussions on integrity and governance. Observers are closely watching the government’s next steps as it navigates the fallout from this high-profile breach of public trust.
