According to the Point Newspaper, Saikou Omar Jeng, former Director of Operations of the dissolved National Intelligence Agency (NIA), was stabbed by another offender at the State Central Prison, Mile Two.
Jeng is currently incarcerated in Mile 2 Prison, sentenced to death along with four other top former NIA officers for his role in the death of opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) member Solo Sandeng.
It has been stated that Amadou Manneh, another prisoner, stabbed Jeng.
Luke Jatta, the deputy spokesperson for The Gambia Prison Service (GPS), has verified the news, stating: “The incident happened on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at about 17:15 p.m., while Mr. Jeng was taking ablution. A convicted prisoner, Amadou Manneh, took a screwdriver and stabbed him around his neck, trice.”
“The suspect was apprehended, and Jeng was immediately rushed to Ndemban Clinic for treatment, he said.
He continued, “The police have charged the suspected prisoner with assault causing bodily harm after conducting an investigation into the incident.” PRO Jatta further disclosed that Amadou Manneh was eventually charged in a Banjul magistrate court.
