Expert Testifies in Murder Trial of Ousainou Bojang and Sister Amie Bojang

Professor Gabriel Ogun

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – Professor Gabriel Ogun, the head of pathology and laboratory medicines at Edward Francis Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), testified as the seventh witness (PW7) in the alleged murder trial of Ousainou Bojang and his sister Amie Bojang.

The trial, presided over by Justice Jaiteh, saw Professor Ogun, a senior staff member with an extensive academic background in pathology and medicine, present crucial evidence regarding the postmortem examinations of two deceased police officers, Pateh Jallow and Sang J Gomez, conducted in September 2023.

Professor Ogun confirmed conducting the postmortem examinations and preparing the related reports, which were subsequently admitted as Exhibits P20 and P21 in the trial.

During cross-examination by Counsel Lamin J Darboe for the first accused, Ousainou Bojang, Professor Ogun shed more light on the events surrounding the examinations at EFSTH.

When questioned about the certification of death, Professor Ogun distinguished between doctors certifying someone dead and the medical certification of death. He explained that the medical certificate of death is written when the person is confirmed dead, which in this case was done after the postmortem examination.

Furthermore, Professor Ogun clarified that he prepared the medical certificates of death for both victims either at his office or at the mortuary, both located on EFSTH premises.

He also confirmed that the examinations took place on September 14, 2023, starting at 15:19 hours, emphasizing the variable duration of autopsies based on the complexity of each case.

The case was adjourned to 29th April 2024, as the trial continues to unfold with testimonies and evidence presented before the court.
