Gambiaj.com – (BASSE, The Gambia) – Police in the Upper River Region (URR) are investigating a suspected murder in Jah Kunda Village following the tragic death of a female health worker on 11th December 2024.
According to authorities, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault by an individual from the same village. The incident was reported to the Sarengai Police Station by staff members of the Yerobawole Health Center, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement officers.
The suspect was apprehended in Jah Kunda shortly after the incident, and the alleged murder weapon, a pestle, was recovered at the scene. Police confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, arrangements are underway to transport the deceased to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) mortuary in Banjul, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
Law enforcement officials have called on the public to report disputes or criminal activities to the police, emphasizing the importance of refraining from taking the law into their own hands.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents of Jah Kunda mourning the loss of a valued health worker who had been dedicated to serving the village. Police have assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
