Fire Razes Family Home in Sukuta Nema, Homeless Residents Appeal for Urgent Help

Inferno Sukuta Nema

Gambiaj.com – (SUKUTA NEMA, The Gambia) – A devastating fire swept through a family compound in Sukuta Nema City, Sanyang Kunda, on Wednesday morning, leaving one household homeless after their home and all belongings were completely destroyed.

The blaze, which broke out between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., spread rapidly through the compound, engulfing household furniture, clothing, and other essential items before neighbors were able to bring it under control. No injuries were reported, but the family has been left in severe distress, having lost everything in the fire.

Speaking to reporters, Malcom Malang Daffeh, a close relative of the affected family, described the incident as heartbreaking and issued an urgent appeal for public assistance.

Everything was gone before we could do anything,” Mr. Daffeh said. “The fire took away all that we owned. My wife’s family is now without shelter, and we are appealing to kind-hearted people to help us recover.”

He explained that the family is in urgent need of basic necessities, including clothing, furniture, and household items, as well as building materials and financial support to help rebuild their destroyed home.

We are humbly seeking help from the public, especially our brothers and sisters from Road to Firdaws and all people of goodwill. Even the smallest contribution can make a big difference,” he added.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, members of the community mobilized to assist the victims, offering temporary shelter and food. Residents described the fire as one of the most severe incidents to hit the neighborhood in recent months and expressed deep sympathy for the affected family.

Appealing to the spirit of compassion, Mr. Daffeh cited a teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to encourage humanitarian support: “Whoever relieves a believer’s distress, Allah will relieve his distress on the Day of Resurrection.”

The family and community leaders are now calling for urgent support from the public and charitable groups to help rebuild the home and restore hope after the devastating loss.
