Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – In a private and subdued ceremony, former Senegalese First Lady Marième Faye returned to Dakar to celebrate the wedding of her son, Ibrahima Sall. The event, marked by familial intimacy and political undertones, took place at the bride’s family home in Yoff. Ibrahima married the daughter of prominent businessman Tahirou Sarr, a close associate of the former presidential couple.
Marième Faye, maintaining a low profile, was accompanied by her daughter. The newspaper reports that despite the significant occasion, the former President Macky Sall did not attend. Instead, he was represented by Amadou Mame Diop, the speaker of the National Assembly, along with other notable figures from his previous administration. This absence underscores the ongoing political transition in Senegal following the end of Sall’s presidency on April 2.
Since stepping down, Macky Sall and his family have relocated to Morocco, where they have remained largely out of the public eye. When they do garner attention, it is often in the context of Macky Sall’s new international role. As the special envoy of the Paris Pact for People and the Planet (4P), Sall travels extensively, advocating for global issues.
The wedding in Yoff thus serves as a rare moment of public visibility for the former First Family, blending personal celebration with the lingering echoes of their political past. The presence of figures from Macky Sall’s administration highlights the enduring connections and influence of the former president within Senegal’s political landscape, even as he engages in his new international mission.
