Former Police PRO Kujabi Reaffirms Loyalty After Leadership Raises Concerns Over Public Writings

Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – Former Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) David Kujabi has reaffirmed his commitment to loyalty, discipline, and professionalism in the wake of concerns raised by the Gambia Police Force (GPF) over his recent public reflections on youth arrests and security matters.

The GPF recently reminded its members, past and present, of the importance of discipline and the need to use official channels when offering suggestions or concerns.

This came after Kujabi’s earlier commentary on the handling of youth arrests sparked unease within the institution, with the police leadership cautioning against opinions that could be seen as undermining internal cohesion.

In his latest statement, Kujabi acknowledged the concerns expressed by the GPF leadership, stressing that his intention was never to cast the institution in a negative light.

My recent reflections, shared publicly, were intended to contribute to dialogue on peace, security, and development, never to diminish the GPF’s work,” he said. “I acknowledge that these writings may have caused unease within the institution, and I take note of the concern expressed by the leadership.”

Kujabi, who served as the Force’s PRO for several years, said his long service had instilled in him a deep respect for hierarchy and institutional ethics. “I remain deeply committed to loyalty, discipline, and professionalism. I also remain grateful for the opportunities the institution has given me to contribute to national peace and security,” he added.

Looking ahead, Kujabi pledged to channel his insights and expertise through the proper structures of the GPF rather than through public commentary. “Going forward, I wish to use the official channels to continue sharing my knowledge, experience, and expertise,” he affirmed.

Kujabi maintained that his overall goal aligns with that of the Force: building public trust, enhancing peace and security, and ensuring the GPF remains “a respected guardian of law and order.”

His conciliatory tone appears aimed at defusing tensions with the Force, following what some within the GPF viewed as a breach of professional decorum when he publicly critiqued aspects of policing in relation to recent youth detentions.
