Former Prime Minister and Presidential Candidate Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne Passes Away

Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne, the former prime minister of Senegal and a candidate in the last presidential election, passed away in Paris on Friday, April 5, 2024. Dionne, who was bedridden a few days before the election on March 24, was evacuated to Paris on the day of the election for urgent medical care.

The 64-year-old, a trained computer scientist who graduated from Pierre-Mendès University in Grenoble, had been a prominent figure in Senegalese politics. He was notably removed from the presidential movement, Benno Bokk Yakaar, as he sought to conquer power.

Dionne’s death comes as a shock to many, as he was seen as a significant player in Senegal’s political landscape. He will be buried in his native Gossas, marking the end of an era for a man who dedicated much of his life to public service.

The news of Dionne’s passing has elicited an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and citizens alike. His legacy will be remembered for his contributions to Senegal and his commitment to public service.
