Gambiaj.com – (Diouloulou, Senegal – The Senegalese Gendarmerie has issued a statement on the arrest of Bouba Drammeh, a fugitive wanted by Interpol Gambia for murder, who has been arrested in a remote village in Senegal after evading capture for several years. According to the Senegalese Gendarmerie, Bouba Drammeh was apprehended on Tuesday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m. in Samboulandian, a secluded settlement within the town of Kataba 1, Diouloulou sector.
Bouba Drammeh had been on the run since escaping from prison in The Gambia following his incarceration on murder charges. The Gambian authorities issued an arrest warrant for him in 2021, but his whereabouts remained unknown until a recent breakthrough in intelligence sharing between Senegalese and Gambian security services.
Following a tip-off from Interpol Gambia, the Senegalese gendarmerie swiftly launched an operation to locate and capture the fugitive. The authorities acted decisively, deploying personnel to the suspect’s hideout, where he was arrested without resistance.
His choice of refuge in Samboulandian, a relatively isolated village, suggests a calculated attempt to evade law enforcement while remaining within reach of networks that could provide shelter and support.
On the orders of the Senegalese prosecution, Bouba Drammeh was handed over to Gambian authorities later that evening at 7:00 p.m. Drammeh is now back in Gambian custody, where he is expected to face trial for murder as well as additional charges related to his escape from Mile 2.
Authorities have assured the public that further investigations are ongoing and that anyone found complicit in aiding his escape will also face justice.
His arrest highlights the effectiveness of cross-border security collaboration and the unrelenting efforts of law enforcement agencies in both countries to combat transnational crime.
The case underscores Senegal’s continued vigilance in addressing cross-border criminal activities and upholding judicial cooperation in extradition matters. The successful operation serves as a warning to fugitives attempting to exploit porous borders to escape justice.
