Gambiaj.com – (RABAT, Morocco) – The Gambia and Morocco have signed a new air services agreement aimed at strengthening civil aviation cooperation between the two countries. The accord was formalized on Tuesday in Montreal, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly.

The agreement was signed at ICAO headquarters by Morocco’s ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani, and The Gambia’s Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah.

It is designed to modernize the legal framework governing aviation relations between Banjul and Rabat while aligning with continental and global initiatives to enhance connectivity and safety in air transport.

In keeping with the Yamoussoukro Declaration on the liberalization of African air transport and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the agreement commits both countries to the highest safety standards, closer cooperation against unlawful acts, and the creation of mechanisms for dispute resolution through consultation or arbitration.

Speaking after the signing, Minister Sillah described the accord as “an important step in strengthening already strong bilateral ties” and said it reflects the shared determination of The Gambia and Morocco to advance ICAO’s objectives.

The ICAO Assembly, held every three years, brings together representatives from 193 member states and international organizations to set the global policy direction for civil aviation.

On the sidelines of this year’s session, Morocco’s Transport and Logistics Minister, Abdessamad Kayouh, led his delegation in a series of high-level meetings with international counterparts to explore new opportunities for technical and operational cooperation.
