Gambiaj.com – (Darsilami, Brikama North, The Gambia) – The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and their Senegalese counterparts have successfully concluded the second joint border patrol aimed at bolstering peace, security, and cooperation between the two nations.

The operation is part of a defense and security agreement signed on March 4, 2017, in Dakar, which established a Joint Military Committee (JMC) earlier this year.

The patrols, conducted by GAF’s 1 and 4 Infantry Battalions alongside Senegalese forces from Zone 5 in Ziguinchor, covered the Southern border regions, including Darsilami, Kampassa, Kalagi, and Sohm.

The exercise sought to address transnational crimes such as armed banditry, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, while fostering trust between border communities and security forces.

Two teams carried out simultaneous patrols: one in the Foni border region and the other in Darsilami and Sohm, engaging local leaders and community members to understand their concerns and strengthen cooperation.

The initiative culminated in a VIP Day held in Darsilami, Brikama North. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Morr Talla Tine, Governor of Ziguinchor; Mr.

Hamadi Sowe, representative of the Governor of West Coast Region; and senior military officers, chiefs, and local leaders from both nations.

Commanders from both sides emphasized the patrols’ broader goals of enhancing economic and political stability in border communities while promoting collaboration between The Gambia and Senegal.

The joint efforts are expected to pave the way for continued harmony and security in the region.
